HedgingWhy do I use Scottish Timber?

As a sparsely populated Northern European Nation, we ought to have a thriving forest economy based on native tree species. All too often, what we have is low value unmanaged exotic conifer plantations and overgrazed uplands.

Improving our woodlands is a big job but using Scottish timber is a step in the right direction, adding value and putting money back into the system to encourage woodland management and expansion.

Okay, it's bad news for the individual tree, but if its done as part of a sustainable plan then its good news for the collective woodlands, now and in the future. Using timber in a responsible way makes woodlands valuable and ensures their survival. It is when they are perceived as worthless that they become unmanaged and at risk of loss or conversion to other land use.

Scottish timbers such as Oak, Elm, Beech and Ash are beautiful and full of character, a great palette for designing and making lovely furniture.
